Connor McDavid Awarded Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff MVP

Historic Victory for Losing Team Player

Edmonton Oilers Superstar Makes History

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. McDavid's exceptional performance led his team to the Stanley Cup Final, where they ultimately fell to the Florida Panthers.

This marks the first time since 2003 that the Conn Smythe Trophy has been awarded to a player on the losing team. McDavid becomes the fifth player in NHL history to win the award while on the losing side, joining Jean-Sébastien Giguère, Ron Hextall, Glenn Hall, and Jacques Plante.

McDavid had a remarkable playoff run, posting an incredible 42 points (8 goals, 34 assists) in just 24 games. He broke Wayne Gretzky's playoff assist record and led the league in scoring throughout the postseason.

Despite the Oilers' defeat in the Stanley Cup Final, McDavid's performance earned him the admiration of the hockey world. He showcased his exceptional speed, skill, and playmaking ability, cementing his status as one of the greatest players in the NHL.

McDavid expressed gratitude for the honor, acknowledging the team's effort and the support of his fans. "This is a huge accomplishment for me, but it's also a reflection of the hard work and dedication of my teammates," he said.

The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded annually to the player who is judged to be the most valuable to his team during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. McDavid's historic playoff performance has earned him this prestigious recognition, solidifying his legacy as one of the most dominant players in NHL history.
